ETOWAH ARTIFACT ID DAY CANCELED Permenantly

This event has been canceled by the Cherokee Nation, they feel it leads to looting of sites and no longer supports this event

Etowah Indian Mounds Museum

10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.

at the Etowah Mounds Museum

The Cherokee Nation has requested that there no longer be a ID Day as it leads to Looting in their opinion. But over the last 10 years, working with the National Park Service we have noted that most people who bring in artifacts are people who don't know what they have. The typical guest is a family member who was cleaning out Grand Pa's stuff after his passing, and they reconize this stuff as being acient but they have no idea what it is or what it was used for.....and these objects are not sacred. They are stones used to process food and make tools to live. No it does not lead to looting and now there will no longer be a place where the public can go ask questions and get honest answers.

Please bring your artifacts for identification and sharing with many interested collectors.  You may want to come and just meet new friends and see what local collectors bring in.  This is usually one of the most productive ID days we have.  Artifacts will be identified by J. Steven Beasley as per agreement with the Etowah Mounds Complex, but additional Peach State members will be present. Ronnie Chase, Lee Forsyth, Trent Clayton and Archaeologist Dana Chandler attended past ID Days. All Peach State Members are welcome to attend.

There is no provision for show tables and this is not an atmosphere where any buying or selling can take place.
