Perforators

PERFORATORS

Drills might have been used for wood or other materials that required a bow and some endurance to create holes, while perforators would often be used by hand for thinner or softer materials like hides.  Perforators are often shorter than drills. The bit most often tapers to a point rather than maintaining a uniform width throughout the length. When exhausted points were used as perforators, they again gave some evidence of the antiquity of the tool. Flakes used as perforates offer no evidence of antiquity requiring that the context of other diagnostic tools be used in dating.
